GIST Tech-I Competition Details

The GIST Startup Boot Camp East Africa is organized in partnership with infoDev, powered by 
LIONS@AFRICA and in cooperation with Tanzanian-based entrepreneurial incubator DTBi . The boot camp will be held at DTBi headquarters in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Tuesday, May 7-8, 2013.  

On Tuesday, May 7 the Boot Camp will offer a day of intense business theory classes, practical networking, venture road mapping, business plan workshops, and skills development seminars. 

On Wednesday, May 8 GIST will organize a day of individual mentorship and a public pitching tournament for the top 30 selected ventures. To attend on May 8th, ventures will be selected from the applications we receive.

Jeff Hoffman, member of the founding team & former CEO,, Founder, ColorJar, and GIST Advisory Group member. LinkedIn

Jeff Hoffman is an accomplished entrepreneur and innovator in the fields of Internet, e-commerce, and entertainment. He launched his first software company while still a student at Yale University. Mr. Hoffman is a founder and partner in ColorJar, a venture accelerator firm that helps entrepreneurs and small business owners launch and grow new business ventures. Mr. Hoffman is perhaps best known as a founder and CEO in the family of companies, where he led the development and launch of Priceline's consumer company (Priceline YardSale). 

Scott Gillespie, Founder and Managing Partner of the Jigsaw Group. LinkedIn
Scott is currently the Founder and Managing Partner of the Jigsaw Group, an early stage investment and advisory group. He is also a Commercialization Partner for T2VC, a team that manages a technology venture fund and architects innovation ecosystems in emerging markets. With T2VC, Scott developed and delivered the Bedaya Program to early stage ventures in Palestine, including: global mentors and EiRs, group and tailored training on sales, business models, partnering,  and funding; personalized venture road maps; and new market initiatives with Jordan, Iraq, Canada and the UAE. 

Scott shares his insights and experiences at conferences, universities, seminars, networking events and angel groups; he has also co-founded the Power of Angel Investing in Australia. He is also active on the Advisory Panel of Yacht Aid Global which sources education and medical supplies and transports them to regions struck by disaster using mega yachts. Scott has a bachelor’s degree in business (finance), an MBA (marketing), is a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP), and a Certified Financial Planner (academic pending practical). 

Faysal Sohail, Venture Capitalist, CMEA Capital. LinkedIn
Faysal joined CMEA Capital in 2002 as a General Partner, bringing with him more than a decade of senior executive experience in engineering, marketing, business development and building startups. Since 2002, he has led venture capital funding to several key startups in both the energy and technology sectors. Before joining CMEA, Mr. Sohail helped to build three companies all of which became successful through IPO, merger or acquisition. Mr. Sohail holds a BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Sohail currently serves on the Advisory Board of Illinois Venture Investors & Entrepreneurs Forum and on the board of American Pakistan Foundation, an organization dedicated to catalyzing long-term economic development and social change in Pakistan by engaging the diaspora and the private sector and by building partnerships with key stakeholders in US and Pakistan.

Ovidiu (Ovi) Bujorean, Sr. Manager of GIST Initiative.   

Ovidiu Bujorean manages and directs the GIST Initiative. Mr. Bujorean is a professional speaker on topics such as professional networking, innovation and entrepreneurship and partnerships building. Previously, he was the Senior Associate at Rudyard Partners, a private equity firm focused on investing in consumer technologies. Mr. Bujorean serves as Chairman of the Board of Advisors of AIESEC DC and Vice-Chairman of MIT  Enterprise Forum of Washington DC. He founded LEADERS, an organization that impacted the lives of approximately 10000 young leaders and entrepreneurs in Romania and Southern-Eastern Europe and is a graduate of the MIT Sloan School of Management (MBA) and Harvard’s Kennedy School (MPA).
